Brent Charlie: Bringing Brent Home Video

After nearly half a century of operations in the North Sea, the final Brent oil and gas platform is being dismantled and recycled. The arrival of the Brent Charlie Topside, a 31,000-tonne structure, at Able Seaton Port on July 20, 2024, underscores Able UK's leadership in an industry bringing sustained employment and investment to the Teesside area.

We invite you to watch the video above “Brent Charlie: Bringing Brent Home” on the Shell YouTube channel, which showcases the meticulous planning and expertise of the teams from Shell, Able UK, Allseas, and Mammoet in coordinating this unique project.

The Brent Charlie platform, at 31,000 tonnes, is the largest single-piece offshore topside to be lifted, transported, and delivered to land. This milestone is part of a long-term contract initiated in 2011 and formalised with Shell in 2013 for the recycling of the Brent Field platforms.

Able UK has achieved over 97% recycling and re-use rates on the previously completed Topsides Delta (24,922 tonnes), Bravo (25,272 tonnes), and Alpha (16,869 tonnes). We are committed to maintaining or exceeding this standard for the Charlie Topside, leveraging our experienced, skilled workforce and robust supply chain.
